The Swiss government awards a range of scholarships to Indian students through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS): university scholarships (Swiss universities and Federal Institutes of Technology).
These scholarships provide graduates from all fields with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies or research in Switzerland at a public funded university or recognised institution. Scholarships are provided for a nine-month academic year. Scholarships for postgraduate or Masters programmes lasting up to two years (third or fourth semesters) may be extended depending on results from the first year.
The amount of scholarship is CHF 1,920 for postgraduate students. It is meant to cover a student's living expenses. Indian scholarship-holders receive a flight allowance for a return ticket back to India at the end of their stay in Switzerland. Scholarship holders who remain in Switzerland for more than six months after completion of the scholarship, including those who continue their studies in Switzerland, who take up a professional activity or finish their training in a third country, forfeit their claim to a return fare.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must hold a university degree (Bachelor's /Master's ) on the commencement of the scholarship; be able to demonstrate their academic abilities and what they aim to achieve; be under the age of 35 (born on or after January 1, 1977) and be suitably proficient in the language of instruction (French, German, Italian or English). A language test is required. Candidates must contact the institution and/ or the professor supervising their period of research. 2012-2013 Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching Programme
The Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching programme, sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, US Department of State, will send highly accomplished primary to secondary school teachers from the US abroad and bring international teachers to the US for a semester-long programme. The grant covers round-trip economy airfare for the participant; room and board for the entire grant period; maintenance allowance designed to assist with the costs of food and lodging during the US programme. REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant should be a citizen of India and reside in India at the time of application; be qualified to obtain/hold a valid Indian passport by October 1. Hold at least a Bachelor's degree and a teacher training degree; Be a full-time teacher teaching at any level (primary, middle or secondary) or administrators/academic coordinators who spend 50% of their time in classroom teaching. Teachers of any subject may apply if they have at least five years of teaching experience; demonstrate experience conducting and leading professional development activities; demonstrate accomplishment in teaching or have previously received a teaching award or an exemplary evaluation by a school administrator; demonstrate good English language competence and possess a paper based TOEFL score of 550 (213 Computer Based TOEFL, 79 Internet Based TOEFL) or an IELTS score of 6.5. Attach a photocopy of the score report to your application if you have taken the test. If you have not, and are selected as a nominee, you will have to take the TOEFL in December 2011. USIEF will provide fee vouchers towards the TOEFL exam.

The participant must be eligible for leave from their school/ organisation for the entire duration of the programme. All applications should indicate that leave will be granted for the fellowship, should the applicant be selected. All applications, hand delivered or posted, must reach the USIEF, Fulbright House, 12 Hailey Road, New Delhi 110001. Please write 'ATTN: Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching' on the envelope.
