While 73,168 students are eligible for engineering seats, the total numbers of seats available in the state this year are 83,489.
On the first day of CET counselling, the aspirants ranking among the top 1600 were called for seat allocation. Of the 44,305 seats available for general merit category students, 982 were filled.
RV College of Engineering, BMS College of Engineering and PES Institute of Technology were the most preferred colleges by students on the first day. The most sought after courses were Electronics, Communications and Computer Science.
Karnataka Examination Authority plans to hold CET counselling even on weekends to finish the counselling by August 2.
After AICTE's approval for engineering courses in more colleges and lowering of the eligibility criteria to 45 per cent from 50 per cent, the seats available for the students in government quota are 47,697 and 73,168, respectively.
