Delhi government to add 450 MBBS seats

Delhi government has decided to attach a medical college each with 150 seats to three government hospitals in the capital. These hospitals are: Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Ambedkar Hospital and an upcoming hospital in Dwarka. The state government has budgeted Rs 167 crore for the proposed colleges and it plans to have the colleges ready in two years.

Currently, the five government medical colleges in the capital have 750 seats. These colleges are All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College, University College of Medical Sciences, Maulana Azad Medical College, and Lady Harding Medical College.

Sources from the state health ministry reveal that a committee has started working on expansion of medical seats. The committee will monitor everything ranging from the construction to the operation of these colleges and will also be responsible for recruiting staff.
