Students aspiring to become engineers have a reason to smile. Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) is introducing new courses on aeronautical, petroleum and textile engineering from this session with an aim to attract students from neighbouring states.
The booming aviation industry in the country requires several aeronautical engineers. "With the air traffic increasing in Rajasthan, students can get placed in various aviation companies here," said Yadav. Both these courses have been introduced at RTU campus in Kota. The ISRO has promised to logistically support the department of aeronautical besides providing academic assistance.
The textile engineering course has been introduced in a government engineering college in Bhilwara — a textile hub. "It is introduced in the textile hub so that students can have first-hand exposure on the basics of this industry," added Yadav. All these courses have 30 seats each.
RTU is hoping that the new courses will help them in retaining state students who otherwise leave for bigger cities and towns due to want of quality education and popular branches. They are also planning to create a 'Centre of Excellence in Power Sector' with the help of atomic power plant unit and state electricity board.
RTU has also introduced PHD programmes in all branches to promote research work in various fields.
Efforts will be made to bridge the gap between the industry and the colleges by taking a regular feedback from the industry.
