About AIIMS
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, commonly known as AIIMS , started functioning in the year 1956, leading to the realization of the dreams of Jawaharlal Nehru and Amrit Kaur. AIIMS has been created as an autonomous institution according to an Act of Parliament that states it to be the core for nurturing excellence in every aspect of health care.
The institute has developed unique teaching methodologies at both the Undergraduate and Post-graduate level in all branches of medical science. In the process, AIIMS has established a high standard of medical education in this part of the world.
Objectives of AIIMS
- To develop a pattern of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches so as to demonstrate high standard of medical education to all medical colleges and other allied institutions in India.
- To bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of the personnel in all important branches of the health activity.
- To attain self sufficiency in postgraduate in medical education.
